Welcome to our Sam Gross Artist Spotlight, part of our CartoonStock Artist Spotlights series. Sam Gross is known for his fearless humor and distinctive cartooning style, delivering punchlines that are often as surprising as they are sharp. His work covers everything from darkly absurd jokes to clever social commentary, making him one of the most memorable cartoonists of his generation. In this spotlight, we’re showcasing a selection of Sam Gross cartoons now available in the CartoonStock collection.
My dear friend Sam Gross has been cartooning almost as long as I’ve been alive. For nearly seventy years, he’s cranked out over 32,000 cartoons and appeared in almost every magazine that had cartoons, most notably The New Yorker, The National Lampoon, and Esquire. As Cartoon Editor of The New Yorker, I was often asked who’s the funniest cartoonist ever? Of course, there’s no definitive answer to that but let’s just say Sam’s in the conversation. ~ Bob Mankoff
